

MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman will join other Islamic countries to celebrate the first day of Eid Al Adha today, with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik scheduled to perform the prayer at the Sultan Qaboos Mosque in Suhar.
A formal statement released by the Diwan of Royal Court stated that His Majesty the Sultan will be accompanied at the prayer by members of the Royal Family, ministers, advisers, senior commanders of the Sultan’s Armed Forces and security services, members of the State Council and Majlis Ash’shura, under-secretaries, governors, and other prominent figures and citizens.
His Majesty the Sultan has addressed a message of greetings to the citizens and residents in the Sultanate of Oman, as well as to the entire Islamic nation, on this occasion.
A statement was issued by the Diwan of Royal Court to this effect. It reads as follows: “As Muslims joyfully and exultantly welcome the arrival of the blessed Eid Al Adha for this year, 1447 AH, proclaiming the greatness of Allah the Almighty and glorifying His rites, and drawing inspiration from the noble values of the great pilgrimage rituals, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has conveyed his greetings to the citizens and residents in the Sultanate of Oman, as well as to the entire Islamic nation, on this blessed occasion.
His Majesty prayed to Allah the Almighty for the return of this and similar occasions on them, at a time they enjoy good health and happiness.
May Allah the Almighty protect His Majesty, grant him good health and long life, and bestow upon him His blessings to celebrate this occasion for many years to come.”
Meanwhile, the Wilayat of Suhar is set to come alive with celebrations as residents prepare to welcome His Majesty.
“We are all excited about the visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to Suhar. This Eid will be a double celebration – Eid Al Adha and the visit of His Majesty – which many of us are happy about. Personally, I am overjoyed, anxious and excited with his visit,” Mohammed al Balushi, a Suhar resident, told the Observer.
From the first hours of the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah which marks the first day of Eid Al Adha, pilgrims perform the Eid prayer after which they offer a sacrifice by slaughtering an animal.
Eid Al Adha celebrations in Oman witness a remarkable social gathering and religious feast, which starts from the first day of the blessed month of Dhul Hijjah.
